FLYWHEEL TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY



We are working with PUNCH Flybrid to rapidly develop a vehicle to demonstrate how its flywheel energy storage technology can be integrated to an existing hybrid light commercial vehicle to increase the overall efficiency and performance of vehicles where duty cycles typically require frequent stop/starts at high power.


The PUNCH electro-mechanical flywheel will provide additional energy recovery under braking and power boost on acceleration, enabling the existing battery to operate at a constant efficient output, optimising the range of the vehicle. For this project, we are using one of the Transit PHEVs we created for Ford and will integrate the systems to have a fully working demonstrator ready for the LCV show in September.
