VW LEADS TITLE RACE IN 2015 CHINESE RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
Chris Atkinson has made it five wins from six rallies for the VW Golf SCRC in this year's Chinese Rally Championship, after winning the WuYi Rally today in China.
After the super special stage on Saturday, which was run on gravel, the rest of the event was a further nine tarmac stages and a repeat of the super special in very changeable weather conditions, making tyre choice crucial.
At the end of day two on Sunday, Atkinson had a 22 second lead over Mark Higgins in the Subaru. This morning, good tyre choices by the team allowed Atkinson to extend his lead and take the win by nearly a minute from Higgins in second and Alistair McRae in third. Manfred Stohl was fourth in the Citroen DS3 and the second points scoring Golf SCRC of Chen Dean, in eighth.
The result extends FAW-VW's lead in the manufacturers' championship. FAW-VW now has a ten point advantage with 203 to Subaru's 193, with one final round to come at Christmas which is held on a frozen lake near the Russian border.
