VOLVO LOUNGE CONSOLE
The Volvo Lounge Console removes the front passenger seat to give the rear occupant optimal space and legroom. Prodrive created and built the interior unit which deploys a screen and has a lockable compartment.
THE
CHALLENGE
Volvo Cars wanted to target a growing number of “executive business travellers”, particularly in the Chinese market. They required the ultimate executive accessory option to attract customers from competitor brands to Volvo’s S90 saloon.
WHAT
WE DID
We provided a turnkey solution by designing, engineering and producing the unit to replace the front passenger seat, all at our Banbury HQ. As a bespoke unit, more than 80% of parts had to be manufactured in-house. The console included an integrated iPad Pro, multi-position heated footrest, a lockable storage compartment and ambient lighting.
In managing the programme, including validation, we supplied units for lineside fitment direct into production vehicles to Volvo factories in both China and Sweden.
THE
RESULTS
The programme produced 200+ units. Originally for the S90 Excellence, after positive customer feedback, the console was added to the top-of-the-range XC90 Excellence model.
An absolute magical box that's full of features that provide for the customer entertainment, a place to work & also an environment to relax.
