2022 NBA Draft: Start time, draft order, more
Following an extremely exciting 2021-22 season that ultimately saw the Golden State Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals for their fourth title in the last eight years, it's now time to turn our attention toward next season, starting with the upcoming NBA Draft.
The 2022 NBA Draft is set for Thursday, June 23, and it features no shortage of intriguing prospects as players like Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith, Paolo Banchero and Jaden Ivey are all expected to hear their names called early on by NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
For the first time since 2004, the Orlando Magic have the top overall pick in the draft. Back in '04, Orlando selected Dwight Howard with that top pick, and he went on to have some serious success with the franchise, It will be interesting to see what the Magic do with the pick this time around as their decision will set the tone for the rest of the draft. After Orlando, the Oklahoma City Thunder possess the No. 2 overall pick, followed by the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings and Detroit Pistons rounding out the top five.
After a month plus full of rumors, mock drafts and whispers, that have felt like a long time, the day is finally here. The Sacramento Kings have a franchise-defining decision to make in just a few hours at the 2022 NBA Draft.
Whether they stay at No. 4 or make a trade remains to be seen. But in an effort to see what their options will be, let’s take a look at the favorites to get drafted at No. 4 with odds courtesy of DraftKings. However, to be clear, these are the odds for the No. 4 pick, regardless if Sacramento is the one making the selection.
It's time for NBA draft 2022 live updates, TV channel, streaming, draft order, top picks and more info for Thursday's annual captivating night in Brooklyn, New York.
The 2022 NBA draft has nearly arrived, and the speculation is only beginning. There will be plenty of storylines at issue from the outset of Thursday's event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (8 p.m. ET, ESPN, ABC and ESPN App) -- will the Big Three of Auburn's Jabari Smith, Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren and Duke's Paolo Banchero go in the order expected, and to the teams expected? If it's Smith to the Orlando Magic at No. 1, Holmgren to the Oklahoma City Thunder at No. 2 and Banchero to the Houston Rockets at No. 3, what might that mean for the Sacramento Kings at No. 4? Will the Kings, who must consider the likelihood of their pick signing with the struggling franchise, strike a draft-night deal? If they do, how will the rest of the night's dominoes fall?
The Orlando Magic own the No. 1 pick for the first time since 2004, when they drafted Dwight Howard, and fourth time since their inception in 1989. They also had the first pick in 1993 (Chris Webber; traded for Penny Hardaway) and 1992 (Shaquille O'Neal).
Auburn freshman forward Jabari Smith Jr. looks favored as the No. 1 pick, with Gonzaga freshman forward/center Chet Holmgren also in the mix.
Duke freshman forward Paolo Banchero and Purdue sophomore guard Jaden Ivey are consensus top four prospects, with Iowa sophomore forward Keegan Murray, Arizona sophomore wing Bennedict Mathurin and Kentucky freshman guard Shaedon Sharpe all contenders to go No. 5 overall to the Detroit Pistons.
Instead of the usual 60 draft picks, there are 58 this year because Chicago and Miami both forfeited second-round selections due to a violation of league rules during free agency.
The Pistons took Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham with the top pick a year ago.

All reporting indicates that Ivey and Murray are the two names Sacramento is most heavily considering at No. 4, and are also the names that have been speculated as trade-up options for teams looking to move up in the lottery. Ivey, specifically has a lot of intrigue from other teams, with several reports linking the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers as teams that have been connected by various news reports as teams that have a desire to move up in the draft and select Ivey at No. 4.
It’s that time again! The 2022 NBA draft is here and the NBA is buzzing with movement. Yes, the Utah Jazz do not have a pick in this draft but it doesn’t mean that the Jazz won’t be coming away from the night empty handed. The Jazz have been at the center of every trade rumor out there including being connected to the Hawks, the Raptors and even the Wolves. The question is, will anything out there be good enough for Danny Ainge to pull the trigger on a move? We’ll find out soon.
Already we’ve seen movement with the Portland Trailblazers who traded a future late first for Jerami Grant.
The Blazers still have the #7 pick in this draft and so they might be willing to make a move. We’ll see if the Blazers have interest in Rudy Gobert, but the #7 pick alone doesn’t seem likely to be enough for Ainge to make a move, plus it’s not clear that the Blazers would even have the salary to match salaries.
That takes us to one of the rumors that seems most likely to happen for the Jazz and it includes the Washington Wizards. According to Jake Fischer, the Wizards are looking for a veteran point guard and are willing to move Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
That may happen but it’s not clear how likely that is. It definitely feels like a big possibility. Here are the odds from DraftKings where you can bet on who could go at #10. There’s a lot of options, and wings, in this draft that the Jazz could draft at that point.
Whatever the case, it’s clear the Jazz are looking to get into the draft to make moves. That may be for ancillary players and late 1sts, or it could be for top of the lottery players. Whatever happens, it’s going to be interesting!
