PRODRIVE LOOKS FOR COMPOSITE LAMINATE TRAINEES IN MILTON KEYNES
Prodrive Composites is recruiting 40 local people as trainee composite laminators. The company, based in Rooksley, makes lightweight composite components for customers in the automotive, aerospace, marine and motorsport sectors including Bentley, Jaguar, Airbus Defence & Space and Aston Martin.
Prodrive is giving full training so applicants need no previous experience, just the willingness to learn a completely new skill in an industry which is growing rapidly and offers excellent career prospects.
Prodrive is holding two open days at its facility on 1 and 8 September where people can tour the facility, see what is involved in making lightweight composite components and speak to Prodrive staff about the roles.
“We are looking for people from every age and from every background,“ said Prodrive managing director, Warren Roberts. “They need no particular skill as we will train them, but they must have great attention as they will be hand making components often worth many thousands of pounds. They also must be willing to spend many weeks learning the unique skill of working with composite materials and, if they do, they will become highly desirable employees in what is a rapidly growing industry.”
Lightweight carbon composite components were once the preserve of Formula One cars and stealth fighter jets, today you will find them being used to make commercial airliners like the Airbus A380 and sports cars. Prodrive is even making a large part of the European Space Agency’s Mars Rover which will be launched in 2020.
Daria Kukialka joined Prodrive five years ago as a trainee composite laminator. “I worked for a local company making paper cups when I saw this role at Prodrive. I learnt how to make composite components and progressed up through the grades to become a senior laminator making some of the most complex parts.”
