The VW Golf SCRC was designed to compete in championships that run open class-type regulations for two litre turbocharged cars with four wheel drive. Since its debut in the 2015 Chinese Rally Championship, the car has dominated. In 2015 it won both drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles, secure the manufacturers’ title again in 2016 and this year took the drivers’ title.

The car is based on the latest VW Golf Mk VII and has been built to World Rally Car regulations. It houses many of the proven systems and components including an Xtrac gearbox and differentials, AP Racing brakes, a roll cage and safety features that encompass the latest FIA regulations.

Initially the car was built to the Chinese Rally Championship regulations. However, we’ve used our expertise and intuition to ensure it can readily be modified to suit almost any suitable open class type championship in the world. Its base two-litre engine is also already used successfully in rallycross.

The Golf SCRC’s aerodynamics – in particular the composite rear wing – were all developed in-house by us. The bodywork takes the standard steel panels from a five door Golf, with specially developed flexible carbon composite front and rear bumpers and wings. These impact resistant panels are far more durable and help maintain the aerodynamic performance at the front.

The Golf SCRC also features Macpherson strut suspension at both the front and rear, with Prodrive-Ohlins dampers and hydraulic compression stops. In fact, Many of the suspension components, including the anti-roll bars and uprights, are interchangeable front to rear to minimise the number of spares – another example of how we strive to achieve optimal efficiency in every area.
