Prodrive has won the New Markets award at the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) annual awards held last night in Birmingham in conjunction with the Autosport show.

The award was given to the business that is most successfully taking technology and skills gained in motorsport and transferring them to other industry sectors, including aerospace, marine and automotive.

Dominic Cartwright, Prodrive Composites managing director, collected the award, which recognised the work the composite business is doing in creating the main chassis for the European Space Agency’s Mars Rover.  The final chassis for the rover is currently being completed in a special clean room at Milton Keynes.

The award also recognised how Prodrive is transferring its skills to the marine sector through the high profile America’s Cup project with Land Rover BAR.  This project will be a case study at the launch of major new cross–sectoral initiative between the MIA and the IET (Institute of Engineering Technology) being launched in London next Wednesday.

In the aerospace sector, Prodrive is working with Rolls Royce aero engines, on a second project having recently successfully completed the design of an electric fuel pump.
