Prodrive employs some of the most skilled and creative thinking engineers. For more than 30 years, we have been developing some of the most technologically advanced championship winning race and rally cars, with hugely impressive results. For the last 20 years we've been transferring these skills, technology and approaches to other industry sectors - such as, aerospace engineering.
There are many areas where the technology and methodologies we have developed can be directly applied or re-engineered for applications in the aerospace sector. We have had particular success in applying our control system and power electronics capabilities to commercial aircraft, developing power inverters for electrically powered fuelling systems, as well as developing solutions for electrically driven undercarriages.
Our motorsport-based approach means we can rapidly take ideas to the proof-of-concept and prototype to enable our customers to verify feasibility before helping them to the programme to production readiness.
We have worked with Rolls-Royce Controls and Data Services on a number on projects. The first saw us develop a compact high powered inverter to drive a new generation of electric fuel pumps for commercial jet engines. We helped package the unit and carried our thermal analysis, which led to us designing the complex cooling galleries which were manufactured using 3D laser sintering. We also designed the busbar high powered printed circuit board; the internal and external wiring harnesses and developed the code for the motor control software and communications.
